Our Mission: To improve access to treatment for mental health through the power of movies.
We aim to use research and evidence to develop solutions to personalise movie recommendations based on mood analysis, behavioural science and the practice of Movie Therapy for anxiety and depression care.
We started the Movie Health Podcast to learn more from healthcare professionals about their connection with their favourite movies, practice discussing movies and build awareness of mental health. The episode format is simple: talk about a favourite movie and tips for mental health.
We have learnt a lot about producing a podcast. It takes the right tools and time to edit. Frankly, it’s surprising how much we say “Um”.
Episode downloads (below) are good but could be better. Most downloads are on a desktop. We need to get more listeners on other podcast networks.
We plan to continue the episode format with other healthcare professionals and then expand on the concept of movies for mental health.
Episode Findings
Here are some findings that we have observed across the three episodes of the Movie Health Podcast:
- Connection to movies: In each episode, the healthcare professionals deeply connect to the movies they discuss. The movies resonate with them and find meaning and relevance in the themes portrayed. This demonstrates the power of movies on people and what they can mean as an art form.
- Themes of transformation and personal growth: All three episodes explore transformation and personal growth themes. The movies catalyse for characters to embark on journeys of self-discovery, resilience, and finding one’s true identity.
- Emphasis on mental health and well-being: The discussions in all episodes revolve around the intersection of movies and mental health. Healthcare professionals draw insights from the films to highlight the importance of emotional well-being, self-care, and seeking support when needed.
- Use of Movie Therapy: The concept of movie therapy, using movies as a therapeutic tool, is discussed in episodes one and two. The professionals acknowledge the potential of movies to inspire, build self-esteem, and promote personal growth and self-awareness.
- Personal Experiences and Connections: Healthcare professionals often share their experiences and connections to the movies, linking them to their own or clients’ lives. This adds a relatable and authentic touch to the discussions.
- Encouragement for Openness and Communication: Across the episodes, there is an emphasis on the importance of open communication, both with oneself and with others. The healthcare professionals encourage viewers to express their emotions honestly, seek support from trusted individuals, and consider therapy valuable.
These findings highlight the overarching themes of connection, personal growth, and mental well-being central to your Movie Health Podcast.
